Chapter 3:Chapter 2

But I didn't expect Jessica Robinson to be such a hassle. She saw Mrs. Robinson's condition at the hospital. Yet, once we got home, she smashed all the dishes.

"Zoe, are you crazy or something? I wasn't finished talking, and you just jumped in. Who do you think you are, trying to take me away?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Jessica, just tell me, what's your goal with all this drama today?"

Jessica covered her face and squatted down, crying. "Ethan cheated on me! He cheated! Didn't you hear me? He's shameless, messing around with an old woman almost fifty. They didn't even bother with a hotel, just did it in the car, at the factory, in the office, without protection. I've been at home, raising our kid, borrowing money everywhere to help him start his business. We've been married four years. I sold the house my mom bought for me, sold my dowry gold to help him start his factory. How could he do this to me? Why did you bring me here? Send me back. I want his whole family to hear how he's wronged me."

She squatted there, sobbing, while her three-year-old son, Ryan, clung to me, too afraid to say a word.

Seeing Mrs. Robinson's face turn pale again, I placed Ryan's hand into hers. "Mom, I think Ryan's hungry. Could you take him downstairs for some kids' meals?"

Mrs. Robinson nodded, but looked at me worriedly. "You've been running around since morning without eating. What do you want? I'll bring some back."

At this, Jessica jumped up, clapping her hands as she faced Mrs. Robinson. "You're really my mom! I'm the one being cheated on, bullied, and you don't care about me, but you're worried if an outsider has eaten? Do you know how I got through these twelve hours from night till morning? I used to be proud my parents weren't sexist, always backing me up. But since Dad died, my right to be loved went with him. Why wasn't it you, this heartless old woman, who died first?"

Tears streamed uncontrollably down Mrs. Robinson's face. Her lips trembled, unable to form words. Quickly, I grabbed medicine from her bag and gave it to her. "Mom, she's just upset now, speaking without thinking. Please don't be angry. I'll talk to her later."

I was entirely focused on Mrs. Robinson when suddenly Jessica slapped me across the face. "Do you green teas have your own language system? I'm talking to my own mom. What's it to you? You think you can lecture me? Who do you think you are? An orphan marrying my successful brother, who knows how many tricks you used."

Mrs. Robinson retaliated with a slap to Jessica's face. "Jessica, apologize to your sister-in-law!"

Yet Jessica stubbornly replied, "Oh, I get it now. You and your daughter-in-law are on the same side, treating me as the outsider. But don't forget, this old house was originally Dad's land. Even if Andrew rebuilt it, part of it is mine. You can't kick me out."

I rubbed my temples in exhaustion. Are all love-obsessed people this irrational? How did the topic switch to property rights again?

My face stung with pain as Jessica looked at me triumphantly. "Don't act pitiful in front of me. I'm not buying it. Be honest, how many times did you strip before you snagged my brother, that big fool?"
