Chapter 3:Chapter 2

For three years, Mr. Carter tried every trick in the book to separate Gavin Carter from me. Yet, he never succeeded. Then Gavin lost his memory, and just like that, he fell for the woman Mr. Carter had lined up for him in an arranged marriage.

After going around in circles, it seemed everything was back on track. My friends began to voice their indignation on my behalf.

"There's no way Gavin would like Hannah Quinn. He once cut ties with the Carter family just to be with you and refused to marry her," they insisted.

"Exactly. Gavin always despised Hannah whenever she tried to worm her way in. He must be confusing her with you," another added.

They urged me to "save" Gavin, warning that once he came to his senses, he'd be overwhelmed with regret. It'd be worse than swallowing a fly.

I just shook my head gently at their suggestions. I knew better. Gavin would never regret it. He was lost in Hannah's tender charms and had no desire to wake up.

In the past, I endured a year of humiliation and scorn from him just to make him remember me. But he just got drunk, reliving sweet moments with Hannah captured on his phone.

After a long silence, he finally looked up, eyes cold as ice, and said, "Wouldn't it be better to just let it be?"

I froze in place, at a loss for words.

"But you begged me before your surgery. You lost your memory saving me," I stammered.

Gavin cut me off. "I haven't treated you poorly."

"Can't you just let me go?"

I'll never forget the pain and shame of that moment.

This time, I wouldn't let myself fall into the same trap again. I declined my friends' suggestions, packed my things, and left the place Gavin and I shared, that very night.
