Chapter 3:Chapter 2

How could I not catch the sarcasm in Natalie Reynolds' voice?

But I chose not to argue with her.

Because, indeed, Daniel Reynolds got into trouble because of me.

That day, I casually mentioned to him that I wanted some barbecue from a certain place.

To surprise me, Daniel went out to get it by himself.

It was supposed to be just a little surprise between us as a couple.

But on his way to deliver the late-night snack, he encountered a drunk driver.

When I heard about Daniel's accident, I was completely stunned.

These past two days, I've been by his side, praying to the heavens countless times.

Thankfully, he wasn't seriously hurt, or I would never have been able to forgive myself.

Thinking about it left me feeling restless again.

Daniel loves me wholeheartedly.

He's completely devoted to me, so how could he possibly have time to think about how his ex-girlfriend is doing?

Natalie gave me a knowing look and then walked into the hospital room.

I was left standing in the empty hospital corridor, feeling lost and desolate.

At that moment, it felt like the whole world had deserted me.

It took a long while before I slowly regained my senses.

Just then, laughter erupted from the room.

One of Daniel's friends was laughing as he explained:

"What two years? Amelia Turner was just joking with you! You've only been out cold for two days, not two years."

It seemed my clumsy lie was quickly exposed.

I had hoped to observe Daniel's reaction, but now, I felt nothing.

I walked numbly into the room and apologized to Daniel, "I'm sorry, I was joking. I didn't expect you'd take it seriously."

My voice already carried a hint of tears.

Daniel noticed almost immediately.

He pulled me into his arms, gently touched my hair, and chuckled:

"Good thing it was just two days. If you really had to take care of me for two years, I'd be heartbroken."

His voice was filled with helplessness and tenderness.

As if he truly cherished me.

Lying in Daniel's arms, listening to his steady heartbeat, my nose suddenly tingled, and I almost cried in front of everyone.

I couldn't believe someone who loved me so much would still think about his ex-girlfriend.

But, was Daniel's dream-like confession just my imagination?
