Chapter 1:Prologue

After getting hit in the head with a basketball, Benjamin Lawrence looked at me with an impatient expression.

"How much?"

I was stunned for a second. Then, snapping out of it, I took out my phone to let him scan the code.

"A thousand."

Benjamin sneered, took Mr. Nelson's phone from beside him, and swiftly transferred five thousand dollars to me.

As he left, his voice, dripping with undisguised sarcasm, echoed back.

"Take it and get your brain checked. If it's not enough, come find me."

This school bully really was just as the rumors said—loaded and foolish.

I was obedient. Whenever I was short on cash, I went to watch Benjamin play basketball.

When I saw the ball get thrown out of bounds, I immediately sprinted over, ready to stage an accident.

After the fifth time of my extortion, Benjamin finally caught on.

Through gritted teeth, he said, "Olivia Xavier, do you really think I'm just a fool with too much money?"

Caught red-handed, my little scheme exposed, I fled in embarrassment.

Later, when he saw me holding money given by Samuel Ford, Benjamin cornered me in the classroom, his eyes bloodshot.

"I've got money and no brains. I'm that easy to fool, but you go after that sly pretty boy who’s as cunning as a fox. Are you afraid of leaving traces after being completely devoured?"
